Existing Industries SurveyEvery 2-3 years the Chamber compiles an extensive survey of local industries. The survey results allow community leaders to address issues vital to the continued local operations of existing industries. (Started in 1995) Industry Appreciation EventsLocal industries are recognized each year in a variety of ways. Industry Appreciation Golf Tournaments and BBQs have been held in the past. This is done in an effort to show our local established industries the area’s appreciation for their continued support to our economic base. Profile PacketsThe Chamber produces a single profile booklet on both Ouachita and Calhoun counties from the large number of resources available in the office. The books help a number of different groups including grant writers, existing businesses seeking to expand, and industries looking to relocate. (Started in 1996) Research, Presentations and Information PacketsThe Chamber offers demographic and labor related research for established industries. Often the results are compiled in special information booklets for a specific industry. Presentations covering the materials are also available. (Started in 1996) Legislative WatchThe Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee watches pending legislation during the State’s legislative sessions so that affective lobbying can begin early on legislation which will impact local business and industry. Local industries are encouraged in inform the Chamber concerning legislation that is significant to their operation. (Started in 1997) ResearchThe Chamber often conducts specialized research for prospects in many areas including labor issues and availability, sites, demographic issues, financing, incentives, infrastructure, available contractors, and transportation issues. (Started in 1994) Golden Triangle Economic Development CouncilThe Golden Triangle Economic Development Council’s mission is to address all areas of economic and community development through regional cooperation. The Council also hosts candidate forums which allows those seeking office to express their platform and hear from local business leaders about relevant issues. The director of the Chamber is a member of the board. TransportationThe Chamber is a prominent supporter of Interstate 69 and is actively involved with assuring the location of the corridor to benefit the Camden area. Lobbying of the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Commission, as well as legislators, is ongoing. Open Membership MeetingTwice a year the Chamber holds an open meeting for all Chamber members to attend. The meeting focuses on information relevant to the business and economic climate in the area, as well as upcoming legislative issues which are of concern. (Started in 1990’s) Chamber Member AppreciationChamber members are highlighted in the Camden News, on the local Cam-Tel station and through Radio Works with seven Chamber members highlighted each week. There is no cost to Chamber members for this recognition. (Started in 2001) Radio SpotsIn cooperation with Radio Works (KAMD, Magic 104 and Y-95) the Chamber airs radio spots which focus on positive aspects of the community and highlight Chamber member businesses. The spots are aired on a first come, first aired basis at no cost to Chamber members and are changed every 6-8 weeks. (Started in 1997) Camden Film CommissionThe Chamber has assumed the coordinator’s role for the Camden Film Commission. The Film Commission works with the Arkansas Film Commission to attract TV and movie projects to the area. The Commission also facilitates the projects in the area by interacting with production companies. (Started in 1997) |
